Product Name: Francis Ouimet & Harry Vardon 16 Card Set
Product Code: 1-82371-00077-0
Description:

The retelling of the primary players in the 1913 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, MA, Francis Ouimet, and onetime caddie, now player and Harry Vardon, the English master in the tournament of the decade for the U.S. Cup.  Retold in print and film as "The Greatest Game Ever Played" this is one of the greatest golf sports stories ever with Ouimet as David  going before Vardon's Goliath down to a 18 hole playoff with long hitting British golf mate Ted Ray along for the ride as well.  The stakes were high, England wanted the cup badly and Lord Northcliffe, Vardon & Ray's patron applied ample pressure to get them to win.  But in the young U.S. hero Ouimet saved the day by winning the cup with some help from his 10 year old boy caddie Eddie Lowery who played hooky from school to carry his bag and the game of golf was changed forever in America.  16 card set with bio cards of Ouimet & Vardon.  Featured in Golf Digest Holiday Gift Guide 2006.  We're honored Golf Digest, thank you.

Another historical upset occured on 8/17/09 when Y.E. Yang upset the ranking no. one player in the world, Tiger Woods in a majors tournament, the PGA at Hazeltine.  Golf is now officially a Global Sport, next stop, the Olympic Games.
